Dontas aiming for Townsville rebound at V8 Utes season halfway mark
Just Car Insurance Racing’s Craig Dontas will be looking to rebound and return back towards the front at this weekend’s fourth round of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Castrol Edge Townsville 400. The event marks the halfway point of the season, a critical time for Dontas to secure Championship points as he embarks on a chase towards overall season success.
The last round of the series at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway was a mixed one for Craig. Highlighted by a top ten qualifying performance, the Adelaide driver was caught up in incidents outside of his control. Subsequently, his results were seen as unreflective of the true potential throughout the weekend and Dontas is now more focussed than ever to turn it around this weekend.
“We definitely showed a lot of promise in Darwin, in particular with the top ten result in qualifying and our ability to come from the back of the grid in race two to finish ninth which showed the performance ability that the Just Car Insurance Racing Holden V8 Ute has. While there were some unfortunate events during the weekend in the top end as a result of varying circumstances, I’m really hoping we can come out this weekend and clean up across the board,” Dontas said.
With a short turn around between Darwin and Townsville, the Erebus Motorsport V8 Ute team who prepare and work on the Just Car Insurance Holden V8 Ute, have been hard at work to repair and deliver Dontas the car race ready for the weekend’s events, and Craig is looking to return the favour with some big results.
“The Erebus Motorsport V8 Ute team have put in an effort that is nothing short of incredible between rounds, virtually completely rebuilding the front end of the car to ensure we can be on top of our game for this weekend. The Townsville circuit is one that is obviously vastly different to that of the Darwin track and I’m focussed on achieving another good result in qualifying to give ourselves a strong opportunity of running at the front all weekend,” Dontas added.
In comparison to the Darwin event, Townsville presents a wide variety of different challenges with the narrow street circuit lined by concrete walls with close racing and few passing opportunities, requiring Craig to be chasing overall speed and fast lap times right from the outset in practice and qualifying to set the weekend up ahead of the three races.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Townsville and in particular to the tight and complex Reid Park circuit. It’s one that always throws up plenty of excitement and close racing with numerous challenges. As an entire team, we are focussed on piecing together a big weekend that is complete with success and that will set us on our way for a busy second half of the year,” Dontas concluded.
Round four of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series takes place at the Castrol Edge Townsville 400, Reid Park, Townsville, QLD from July 10-12 with all races to be televised LIVE on FOX Sports.
