Barbour happy with opening round result despite minor setbacks
Just Car Insurance Racing’s Elliot Barbour has wrapped up his first event at Murphy Motorsport in the Australian V8 Ute Racing Series protected by Hawkei in ninth and remains positive with the development achieved across the four day event despite minor setbacks impeding the young Victorian’s potential progress further into the top ten.
With the first eleven cars being reversed from their race one result under the V8 Ute Series grid format, Elliot would start from fourth on the back of his eighth place finish in the first race. With lap times being quicker than ever before on the 3.22km Adelaide street circuit, Barbour secured his best time of a 1:36.082 on lap seven on his way to a fifth place finish ahead of the third and final nine lap race of the weekend.
“The second race of the weekend was a very positive one for the whole Just Car Insurance Racing team; we proved we have a lot of pace in the car after claiming a time below the lap record. It was a great confidence booster for me and the team and I’m looking forward to the final race,” Barbour said.
On the back of his impressive top five finish in race two, Elliot’s charge towards the front was slowed up following contact at turn nine on the opening lap which caused significant damage to his steering. Although he eventually finished eighth, Barbour admits it was a struggle right throughout the race but he has a good grounding for the year moving forward towards the second round.
“After our contact on the first lap the steering took a heavy hit and was bent quite considerably which really impacted the handling ability of the car for the remainder of the race. In the end I was lucky to be able to hold onto eighth by the end of the race.”
“I’m happy to get ninth for the round as it provides a good base for us to kick start to the year, we know where we are strong and where can improve and I’m looking forward to hitting the track in Perth,” Barbour concluded.
Round two of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing Series protected by Hawkei takes place at the Perth 400 at Barbagallo, Perth, WA from May 14-16.
